Half a year after the establishment of Jiao Yang’s research group, a total of four new members have joined: postdoctoral fellow Zhang Yulin, doctoral students Li Zesheng, Liu Hanyuan, and research assistant Wang Zhenkai.
Zhang Yulin was born in Dalian, Liaoning Province. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University and then pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo in Japan, under the supervision of Professor Yoshiaki Nishibayashi. His research focused on asymmetric coupling reactions of radicals, and he obtained a Ph.D. in Engineering in 2022. In June 2023, he joined Jiao Yang’s research group as a postdoctoral fellow, with a research direction in the development of stereoregulated polymerization reactions and the development of asymmetric coupling reactions in supramolecular catalysis.
Li Zesheng was born in Pingdingshan, Henan Province. He graduated from Shanghai High School in Shanghai and was awarded first prize in the Chinese Chemistry Olympiad, which led to his admission to the Chemistry College of Peking University. During his undergraduate studies, he participated in the total synthesis of natural products in Professor Luo Tuoping’s research group. In March 2023, he joined Jiao Yang’s research group to study the synthesis of polyester polymers and graduated from Peking University in June 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Biology. In September 2023, he started his Ph.D. in this group, with research interests in boron radical chemistry, supramolecular recognition of radical species, and the design and synthesis of molecular machines.
Liu Hanyuan was born in Hengyang, Hunan Province. He graduated from Changjun High School in Changsha and entered the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University through a chemistry competition in 2019. During his undergraduate studies, he conducted research on cobalt-catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer reactions in Professor Zhu Rong’s research group. In June 2023, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and received honors such as Outstanding Graduate of Beijing and Outstanding Graduate of Peking University. In September 2023, he was recommended for a Ph.D. program in the same institute, joining Jiao Yang’s research group, with research interests in designing and constructing novel polymers based on supramolecular and radical chemistry.
Wang Zhenkai was born in Xiangyang, Hubei Province. He studied at the School of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences at Wuhan University, where he conducted research in the field of organic synthesis methodology in Professor Liu Wenbo’s research group. In June 2020, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and was recommended for a master’s degree at Zhejiang University’s Chemistry Department in September of the same year, where he worked on asymmetric carbon-hydrogen activation research with cheap metal cobalt catalysis in Professor Shi Bingfeng’s research group. In June 2023, he obtained a Master of Science degree and joined Jiao Yang’s research group as a research assistant in September 2023, with research interests in the design of novel metal complex catalysts based on supramolecular chemistry and their applications in radical chemistry.
We warmly welcome the arrival of all the new members and look forward to their active performance in the new environment!
