From July 8 to July 14, 2024, Prof. Jiao Yang and doctoral student Liu Hanyuan attended the “Polymer Chemistry and Physics” summer class in Changchun. The event was hosted by Jilin University and was attended by 125 students and 45 young teachers from 40 universities and research institutions across the country for a seven-day course. The aim was to consolidate the theoretical foundation of the participants, cultivate young teachers, and serve as a trial lecture for the “Polymer Chemistry and Physics” course under the Ministry of Education’s “101 Plan” for Chemistry, widely collecting suggestions and opinions.
The class featured a strong lineup, including Academician Zhang Xi, the textbook coordinator Professor Liu Shiying, and many other professors and young teachers such as Liu Kun, Wu Guanglu, Zhu Jian, Zuo Biao, Huang Qian, Zhang Xinghong, Shen Zhihao, Huang Caili, Huang Hui, Wu Weitai, Xu Jiangfei, Wang Feng, Yu You, and Yan Xuzhou. Professors NiU Jia, Lü Hua, and Wang Ruibing also delivered academic lectures. The class content covered various aspects of polymer chemistry and physics from the basics to applications, including polymer solutions, polymer aggregation state structures, polymer motion and mechanical properties, polymer characterization, step polymerization, free radical polymerization, ionic polymerization, coordination polymerization, ring-opening polymerization, chemical reactions of polymers, supramolecular polymerization, and sustainable polymer materials. The comprehensive and detailed content benefited the participants greatly, not only reinforcing their theoretical foundation but also broadening their research perspectives. During the class, doctoral student Liu Hanyuan actively raised questions, provided feedback on the course, and shared his insights in group discussions.
