Hao-Ze and Bin’s work on C(3+1) copolymerization of propargyl carbonates and aryldiazomethanes has been published on Giant.
In this work, we report the realization of this Cu-catalyzed C(3+1) copolymerization using propargyl carbonates and aryldiazomethanes derived from N-tosylhydrazones as the C3 and C1 building blocks, respectively. Despite the competing C3-CPPE process, a uniform alternating-like (C3+C1)n copolymer can be synthesized without detectable homopolymer segments, given that aryldiazomethanes of suitable electronic properties were employed. This work introduces a new base-metal-catalysis strategy for chain-growth diazo copolymerization, which combines well-defined backbone, good MW, useful yields and high alkyne incorporation for the first time.
