Jun-Jie, He, Han-Li, Fan and Jun’s work on copper hydride hydrogen atom transfer catalysis has been published on Nat Catal.
In this work, we have developed a Cu-catalysed system enabling MHAT-like olefin oxidative hydrofunctionalization reactions with a broad scope. Evidence was found suggesting possible hydrogen atom transfer from an oxidized copper hydride species or its equivalent to alkenes, which demonstrates distinct selectivity and ligand dependence compared to traditional Cu(I)−H species. The described method provides a general MHAT platform that is complementary to existing ones based on Mn, Fe and Co.
